Do you have any pre-game rituals or superstitions?

Aaron Bonertz: Listen to a joke from our O-Line coach and do our signature "5-Strong" breakdown.

Will Heine: I give a pre-game speech and we break it down on "5-Strong" before every game on the sideline.

Burkett Wake Huey: I really like watching clouds before a game, it clears the head really well. And I need to hear a joke before the game.

Who is your favorite athlete?

AB: Ricky Williams.

WH: Jerome Bettis.
BWH: Thomas Moore. Easily. Best kicker in the business.

What classes are you taking this year?

AB: Band, AP Literature, AP Statistics, AP World History, Civil War/American West, and AP Spanish.

WH: Normal classes, with a heavy emphasis on the lunch period.

BWH: Honors Physics, AP Literature, Theater, AP US History, AP Statistics, and AP Art History

What do you want to do after high school?

AB: Go to a good college and make bank.

WH: Several of us want to play in college, but we all want to go to college.

BWH: I'm not sure if I will have the chance, but I would love to travel around Europe on bike for a while.

If you could travel one place, where would you go?

AB: Amsterdam.

WH: The beach, we all have really sexy, tan, beach bodies, so we like to show them off a little.

BWH: I would go to Austria. Hiking in the Alps and hanging in Vienna is fine by me.

What is one thing you can't live without?

AB: Music and JapEx.

WH: Coach Renner, without his awesome motivational speeches our lives would have no direction... they would be terrible. And Drew Davis, as we spend most of our time trying to protect him from big, athletic men who are trying to hurt him, and us, in any way possible. Our lives would have no meaning if he were to leave.
BWH: I would not want to live a day in a world without Taco Bell. Everything they make is so good.

What is something not many people know about you?

AB: I've lived in 3 different countries and I'm still not a US citizen.

WH: Because we are the last people to leave the locker room to warmup before games, we have a lot of free time before the games start. To kill this time, we all lie down on the grass and look at the clouds and tell each other what they look like. It gets pretty complex and intense.
BWH: Most people don't know that I've lived most of my life in Connecticut.

East Field Hockey Avenges Loss to Carrboro in Double Overtime Victory

East Field Hockey came back from a two-goal deficit at halftime to defeat cross-town rival Carrboro less than a week after losing their first game of the season to the Jaguars. After struggling in the first half, the Wildcats came out strong both defensively and offensively in the second half. After being shut out for three halves against Carrboro, East finally found their offensive touch with goals by senior Margo Richardson and freshman Marissa Creatore to tie the game at two heading into overtime. Both defenses lead the way in the first overtime. Both teams were relentless and made key stops on multiple corner hits with East led by senior defender Emily Shermanski. East finally ended it in the second overtime with a goal by Becca Halter. Shermanski had this to say about the team's performance: "I was worried at first, but then we really picked it up in the second half. I'm so proud of our team! We played really well together." With the victory, East improves to 8-1 on the season and will play at home this Thursday against Jordan.

Do you have any pre-game rituals or superstitions?
I don't really have any pre-game rituals, but right before every serve I have to bounce the ball twice.

Who is your favorite athlete?
I don't have a favorite athlete, but I enjoy watching rafael nadal in tennis. He's an amazing player, plus he's really cute.

What are your expectations for this season?
This season I think we have the potential to go far in states. Broughton has been our toughest competition, but hopefully we play them it will be a lot closer next time.

What classes are you taking this year?
I'm taking Calculus, Civil War/American West, Ceramics I, Visual Arts IV, AP World History, and AP Literature and Composition.

What do you want to do after high school?
After high school I plan to go to college and maybe go abroad for a semester.

If you could travel one place, where would you go?
If I could travel anywhere I'd probably go to Spain, Paris, or London. Actually better yet, I'd just backpack all around Europe.

What is one thing you can't live without?
I can't live without guacamole. It's so good!

What is something not many people know about you?
One thing that most people don't know about me is that I'm a vegetarian.

East Football Defeats Riverside to Improve to 2-0 in Conference

East football defeated Riverside High School 35-28 to spoil the hosts Homecoming game and start 2-0 in conference. The Wildcats shook off a poor first half to defeat the Pirates on the high school version of Monday Night Football. After struggling in the first half with three interceptions, Drew Davis  had another prolific night to lead the Wildcats with 312 yards on 31-40 passing with five total touchdowns, including two rushing. Alex Moore had 11 catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns, putting him at 872 yards for the season. After falling behind 14-6 at halftime, East dominated in the second half with key plays from defense and special teams. After holding Riverside deep in their own end of the field with stifling defense that also included a sack, Kevin Mangel blocked a punt setting East up at the one-yard line where Davis would run in for his first rushing touchdown of the night. This block Although East surrendered a late touchdown to make it a one-possession game, they would recover the ensuing onside kick and convert a first down after a penalty and would proceed to run the clock out. With their second win of the season, East now has their first multi-win season in seven years. East plays Orange High School this Friday in their final non-conference game of the regular season.

I like to make sure I eat a good lunch and then saying a prayer before our team takes the field.

Who is your favorite athlete?
My favorite athlete is Aaron Rodgers.

What are your expectations for this season?
My expectations for this season are to finish in the top 3 in the conference and make it to the playoffs.

What's your favorite class as a senior?
My favorite class that I'm taking this year is Civil War.

What do you want to do after high school?
After high school, I want to enroll at a college and play football.

If you could travel one place, where would you go?
If I could travel one place, I would go to Italy and go to Venice and travel by boat through the streets!

What is one thing you can't live without?
One thing I can't live without is Chipotle. It is my favorite place to eat and I spend a good amount of time there.

What is something not many people know about you?
Not many people know I was born in Dallas, Texas.

East Football Wins Conference Opener To End 14 Game Skid

East football used a powerful pass-happy offense to defeat Jordan High School 62-49 in their first conference game. This was the first time in school history that East beat Jordan in football, and they were able to do so with a consistent offense and key defensive plays throughout the game. Senior Drew Davis led the offense with 454 passing yards on 35 of 49 passes and finished with 7 total touchdowns, including 2 rushing (72 rushing yards), and took care of the ball by not throwing an interception. Junior Jackson Boyer had an outstanding night receiving for the Wildcats with 12 catches for 210 yards and 4 touchdowns. Senior Alex Moore also had a terrific night with 14 catches for 181 yards and a touchdown. After trading off touchdowns with Jordan on the first two possessions of the game, East settled down an was able to play better on defense throughout the rest of the game. East started the offensive scoring quickly with 21 points in the first quarter, and was able to hold onto a halftime lead of 28-27 after senior Andrew Moore blocked a PAT. Moore led the way on defense and special teams with two blocked PATs and an interception return for a touchdown. After taking a 35-27 lead on Moore's touchdown, Jordan responded with a kickoff return for a touchdown and tied the game with a successful two-point conversion. Moore and the rest of the defense would then play it's best defense of the night for the rest of the game. After causing a roughing the kicker penalty which gave Jordan a first down, Moore pressured Jordan's quarterback that resulted in a hurried pass which junior LaPerry Ward returned 65 yards for a touchdown. East scored three straight touchdowns taking a 55-35 lead and would never let Jordan within 12 the rest of the game. This was East's first victory since defeating Northwood in last year's season opener, which was the first game under Coach Bill Renner's current tenure. The Wildcats will play Riverside next week on September 23 in the conference road opener with the game scheduled to start at 7:00 PM.

Do you have any pre-game rituals or superstitions?
I give the team our crossing the line speech every game before warmup. I always wear my lucky socks and wear my #10 blue mouthguard, call me superstitious!

Who is your favorite athlete?
I would have to say Mia Hamm. I love watching soccer because the game and the passing is a lot like field hockey. I got to meet her once when I was younger and that was really cool.

What are your expectations for this season?
This season we have a lot of new talent which I am very excited for. I expect for us to be able to continue to play East Hockey and work hard even with this target on our backs. My personal goal is to win my 4th State Championship.

What classes are you taking as a senior?
AP Psychology, Civil War, APES, AP Lit, Academic Internship

What do you want to do after high school?
I am going to play field hockey in college and hopefully study genetics or biology and after college I want to travel.

If you could travel one place, where would you go?
I’d go to Alaska and see the northern lights.

What is one thing you can't live without?
Strawberry Milkshakes!
