East Women's Soccer Uses 9-Goal Half To Defeat Northern
East Chapel Hill was led by senior Farrell Sweeney's hat-trick in a 10-0 win over Northern Durham on senior night. Sweeney said after the game, "Tonight was a good win for the team. It will really help boost our confidence going into the next three conference games. Our current goal is to win conference and as long as we play hard enough every game, I believe we have a great chance." East took a total of thirty shots in the game, including twenty-five in the first half, to overwhelm Northern, which only managed two shots in the game. Senior Ines Blaesius started off the onslaught by scoring in the second minute of the game and recording another goal and three assists in the nine-goal first-half. Senior MJ Lyonnais scored a goal to finish off the senior scoring for the game. Sophomore Abbey Underwood and freshman Lauren Douglass each scored two goals and recorded an assist for the Wildcats. Farrell Sweeney, freshman Riley Foster, and freshman Blakeney Blair combined for the shut-out in goal. When Sweeney was asked how she felt about playing goalie she said, "Coach K really felt that my quickness and athleticism would help at the goalie position tonight, so I went out there and saved the only shot I faced." East will play their next game at Southern High School on Thursday at 5:00.
